FORUM RULES

Welcome to the CUP Community

Our forum is open to all carers over the age of 18, whatever your circumstances. We are a supportive community where carers can freely express themselves among people who understand the ups and downs of caring.

The forum is moderated by volunteers - all of whom have caring experience themselves - with the support of A Cup of Cope staff.

Young carers

If you are under the age of 18 we recommend you visit www.littledreamersonline.com which is specifically set up for young carers.

Guidelines Remember that people using the Cup of Cope Forum may be going through a particularly challenging or difficult time. Please be sensitive to the fact that people may be feeling vulnerable, and consider how your message may be perceived by someone going through a tricky situation. If we think that a comment could be disruptive or disrespectful we may decide to remove it to protect people using the forum.

Rules We ask all people using our website to be aware of the terms and conditions and privacy policy. Users of the forum should also be aware of the following rules:

1. Be respectful

We want the forum to be welcoming, supportive and a place where people can express themselves freely.

We understand people will have different opinions. Please respect other people's right to disagree with you.

Please consider the tone of your posts - giving strong, judgmental opinions about another person's personal circumstances and choices can be upsetting to that individual and may put them off posting on the forum, especially if the person posting is new to the forum and has not used a forum before. Try to base replies on the information given, rather than make assumptions about a person's circumstances.

A Cup of Cope has the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit. A Cup of Cope also reserves the right to ban users or remove postings if they:

- Contain insulting personal remarks, are offensive, abusive or libellous or act in a way to cause harassment;

- Make comments that misrepresent or damage the reputation of A Cup of Cope, whether on the A Cup of Cope forum or on any other public forum or site;

- Are not constructive to the overall purpose and mission of A Cup of Cope or are intended to create a distraction; and

- Disregard the forum rules and/or information provided by the moderators and staff.

These rules apply to the Private Messages system as well as the public posts. The IP address of all posters is recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions. We ask that all members of the forum respect the decisions of the Moderators and staff.

2. Links to/from other websites

On the forum carers are welcome to post links (URLs) to other websites they think will be helpful to other carers. However, commercial advertising or plugging of products, websites etc. is not allowed and will be removed (also see rule 9). The posting of a URL on the forum does not imply any endorsement and A Cup of Cope reserves the right to remove URL's from forum postings if we feel they are not appropriate to the overall purpose and mission of the website.

Cutting and pasting large sections of content from other websites is not allowed. Instead please include a short summary and a link to the page.

Likewise, people are welcome to post links on other websites back to this forum, but cutting and pasting large chunks of content from here onto other sites is not allowed, as it removes comments from their context and is a breach of copyright.

3. Your personal information

We understand that carers posting on the site may want anonymity. Therefore, you may choose to use a pseudonym for your user name. For your safety and security, it is a forum rule that you should not post your personal address, email or phone number on the forums. If you would like to contact other forum members please use the “messages” facility. There is more information about using Private Messages in the Help section.

Any posts containing addresses or phone numbers will be deleted.

4. Posting images

Users are welcome to post images on the forum if they stick to the following rules:

- No posting of photos of anyone under 18 without parental consent

- No posting of photos of anyone over 18 without the person's consent

- No posting of photos that are likely to cause offence or bring A Cup of Cope into disrepute

5. Post in the right place

The forum is divided into categories so you should try and make your post in the one that is most suitable. If you're not sure where your post should go then put in the “Social Area” section. The moderators reserve the right to move posts into other forum areas if they feel it is more suitable.

6. Stick to the topic

Please try and keep to the thread's original intention. We do not want to stifle the creative flow of the conversation but if a new topic evolves it is good practice to start again in a new thread. Moderators reserve the right to lock topics that go off thread or move topics into new areas.

7. No duplicate posts

Please do not make the same post in different forum areas. Duplicate posts will be deleted.

8. No excessive SHOUTING

SHOUTING is when people use all capital letters in their posts. This only works when used sparingly. Please do not use capitals to excess.

9. No advertising or commercial postings of any kind

Carer to carer recommendations of products is acceptable but any hint of commercially driven posting will result in the posts being removed.

10. Questionnaires or requests to assist with research or consultations

The Cup of Cope Forum is here so carers and former carers can support one another through the ups and downs of caring. Because of this focus on peer support we do not allow third parties to post links to research or surveys.

If you would like to discuss potential collaboration with A Cup of Cope on a research project please get in touch at info@cupofcope.org

11. Breaking of the rules and banning of members

In most cases if a rule is broken a warning will be issued. If the warning is ignored then any further rule breaking may result in a short suspension or cooling-off period of a few days.

Persistent rule breaking or deliberate provocation will be taken seriously and may result in the person being suspended for longer periods or banned altogether from the forum.

In some cases, a person may be banned outright without warning. Any banning of a visitor from anywhere in the A Cup of Cope site is binding and the decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered nor will A Cup of Cope be obliged to explain such banning.

Banned members attempting to re-register under new names/email addresses will have their accounts deleted without warning. It is also against the rules for other members to act as a proxy for a banned member; posting questions, remarks etc. on behalf of any person banned from the forum. Any member found acting as a proxy will also be banned.

We want this forum to be a safe, supportive environment for carers and so we take personal and offensive comments very seriously.

12. Complaints and reporting rule breaking

Any user who feels that a posted message or private message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us immediately by email on info@cupofcope.org

13. Messages

The content of private messages should remain private and should not be posted on the forum. Rules also apply to messages and if you receive a private message that breaks the rules please report it to a Moderator. If you have an issue with another member’s post that you do not want to discuss in public on the forum, please contact a moderator rather than the writer of the post.

14. Copyright of posts

In posting content to this forum you grant A Cup of Cope a non-exclusive worldwide royalty-free perpetual non-revocable license to use, distribute, adapt, modify, display, reproduce and transmit such content in any and all media in the manner in whole or in part without any duty to account to the member.
